Year 3 children in the Phuket Safety Schools Sandbox kick-started their new topic about light by experiencing a live shadow puppet show. This created the learning opportunity to think about how the shadows were created. All the children were given the chance to control the shadow puppets and narrate the well-known fairytale, The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

After the show was over the children all made individual shadow puppet theatres using cereal boxes, tracing paper, and torches. The children were very excited to make their own characters and stories with shadow puppets. The next steps in their learning will be to investigate how shadows move and change size. It was a successful beginning to a new unit and, certainly, the children’s curiosity and passion for learning were inspired! Thanks for the show Year 3!
