The Winterfest exhibition celebrated the end of Term 1’s creative journey, showcasing the talent and dedication of students from Years 3 to 6. The display featured a variety of artistic projects, highlighting both cultural exploration and technical skills.

Year 3 students created vibrant Day of the Dead skulls, using bright colours and intricate patterns with paint pens to capture the festive spirit of this Mexican tradition. They also produced Phuket-inspired landscapes, drawing on the style of Welsh artist Maggy Roberts. By employing the Sgraffito technique with acrylic paints and oil pastels, they added texture and depth to their pieces.

Year 4 explored Thai history through shadow puppet-style artwork, depicting scenes from the Ayutthaya period, including soldiers, animals, and temples. They used acrylic paint washes, paint pens, and markers to bring these historical scenes to life.

Year 5 crafted African-inspired ceremonial masks from layered cardboard, painted with earthy tones and intricate patterns that reflected the cultural significance of their designs. These masks will feature in a performance on International Day. In addition, they began working on digital artworks by capturing photos of the school and transforming them with wintry elements such as snow and penguins.

Year 6 took inspiration from ancient Greece, designing Greek-style columns using white, grey, and black chalk on black paper. Their work focused on light and shadow, creating striking, three-dimensional effects.

The Winterfest exhibition was a joyful celebration of students’ creativity and cultural exploration across year groups. We look forward to seeing their continued artistic growth in Term 2.
