This Summer, two BISP alumni will compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in swimming events.
Class of 2017 alumni, Chantal Liew, will compete for Singapore in the women’s 10km Open Water swim on Wednesday 4 August at 8 am local time in Japan. Chantal was the first placed Asian swimmer at the final qualifying race for this event in Portugal and is the first swimmer from Singapore to ever qualify for the Olympics in Open Water swimming.
Class of 2020 alumni, Atuhaire Ambala, will compete in the men’s 100m freestyle for Uganda after meeting his nation’s qualifying standard. Atuhaire will swim on Tuesday 27 July at 7 pm local time.
Both students have navigated interruptions to their training schedules and the unprecedented adversity of the last 18 months to turn their Olympic dreams into a reality.
BISP Swim Academy Head Coach, Colin Braund, said, “These athletes have continued to put in the work and have shown resilience and determination – qualities we aim to instil in our athletes here at BISP. We all wish Chantal and Atu the very best for Tokyo and a safe and enjoyable Games.”
On behalf of everyone at BISP, good luck Chantal and Atuhaire!
