As part of their exploration of outer space, our Reception students once again took part in the much-anticipated BISP Rocket Launch – a now annual tradition that brings science, creativity and pure excitement together in one unforgettable event.
In the lead-up to launch day, students designed and decorated rockets in class using 1.5 L bottles, learning to think about what makes a rocket soar – from shape and water pressure to balance and design. Each class collaborated to create their own colourful water rocket, drawing inspiration from their space-themed lessons.
This year, we had a very special Rocket Man: Mr Little, who joined the fun, helping the children with the countdown and launch. With the rockets filled and the bicycle pump ready, students counted down from 5 – reinforcing their learning of numbers – before watching their creations shoot into the sky. Some rockets flew higher than the main school building, sending squeals of delight across the field.
The rockets made by the early years rocketeers were amazing. The creativity and awesome trajectories were a delight to see. Couple this with the enthusiasm of all the young rocket scientists, made for a space-tastic morning of rocket launches. – Rocket Man, Mr David Little
It was a thrilling way to wrap up the space unit, combining hands-on learning with moments of awe, teamwork and joy. We can’t wait to see how far next year’s rockets will fly!
