On Wednesday, 11 September, Key Stage 1 parents were welcomed to the Primary Hall by Rebecca Krijewski ( Leader and Year 2 Leader) and Jessica Newhouse (Year 1 Leader) to learn more about the phonics programme at BISP. They introduced the Read, Write, Inc approach, explaining how daily lessons are structured and the rationale behind them. Parents were shown ‘speed sound’ lessons, ‘storybook’ lessons, and the importance of fluency in developing confident readers.
The workshop also highlighted the strong home-school partnership at BISP, with a focus on how parents can support their children’s progress through daily reading activities. Parents were encouraged to engage with their children’s reading, applying the phonics strategies demonstrated during the session.
The session concluded with a Q&A, where parents had the chance to ask questions and clarify any uncertainties. The key takeaway remained: read, read, and read again – and if in doubt, read some more!
