On Wednesday, 25th September, Primary parents were welcomed to the Conference Room by Sam Lord (Primary Maths Coordinator) for an overview of how Maths lessons are delivered in Primary. Parents were introduced to the White Rose scheme of work, which follows the UK national curriculum, and learned how teachers adapt this to suit students’ needs. Mr. Lord explained how lessons are made engaging with the support of learning enhancement teachers, teaching assistants, ELA teachers, and the AEN department. Data highlighting excellent results from last year’s GL assessments was also shared.
Parents were introduced to new practice journals provided to students in Years 1-6, which align with classroom learning and support Maths homework each week.
A key highlight was when parents became ‘students’ themselves, using whiteboards and markers to learn about part-whole and bar models. Mr. Lord also shared examples of effective questioning techniques to support problem-solving with children.
The workshop was well-attended, reflecting the dedication of our parent community in supporting their children’s learning. A big thank you to all the parents who attended and showed their commitment to their children’s educational journey.
