Our Year 12s recently attended a series of talks given by BISP parents focused on careers. This follows a similar event hosted for Year 11s earlier in the year. The talks covered specific career focuses such as advertising, hospitality, financial trading and law. There were also broader discussions on topics such as the importance of sustainability in business and balancing the arts and sciences to support career goals.
Additionally, two talks centred around student self-advocacy: ‘Entrepreneurship and Grasping Life’s Opportunities’ and ‘Leadership and Promoting Oneself’. The students provided great feedback, reporting that they were inspired and exposed to new ideas to help them plan their future.
BISP is grateful to our parent volunteers, Toby Ruddock, Mike Adams, Valerie Autissier, Michal Zitek, Campbell Norwood, Peter Hamilton, Daryn Hudson, and Marc Parrott for their time and insight. Special thanks also to BISP PTA Chair Tomoko Mian for helping us connect with our parent volunteers for this event.
Our university counsellors, Phil Tucker and Amy Pothong, plan to continue offering such events next academic year and are always eager to hear from parents who may have something valuable to contribute. Please contact them via [email protected]
