On Friday, 15th November, the BISP community came together to celebrate the vibrant Thai festival of Loy Krathong. Filled with cultural traditions, creativity, and community spirit, the day highlighted the beauty of Thai heritage while fostering connections among students, parents, and staff.

Primary Loy Krathong Celebrations

The Primary School festivities began early in the morning as parents and children joined forces to create traditional krathongs. The hallways buzzed with excitement as experienced Thai and international parents shared their skills with those new to the craft, creating a welcoming and festive atmosphere. Many students and parents embraced the occasion by dressing in stunning traditional Thai attire, adding to the day’s charm.

The celebrations culminated in a special assembly for Years 4 to 6, which parents attended in person while others enjoyed via live stream. The assembly brought together the BISP community to honour Thai culture and the joy of coming together in celebration.

Secondary Loy Krathong Celebrations

The Secondary School embraced Loy Krathong with a week of activities, beginning with a krathong-making workshop led by Thai teachers. Students and new staff eagerly participated, learning the art of crafting eco-friendly krathongs.

On the day of the festival, the Secondary assembly opened with the elegant Ramwong Loy Krathong dance performed by new staff members. This was followed by impressive musical performances, including a soulful rendition of “Lob-Young” by Year 10’s Je t’aime, and captivating performances from Jazztastic and the Bassless Band. The highlight of the assembly was the Thai Costume Fashion Show, led by Year 13’s Zimya Sombat, showcasing the grace and beauty of traditional Thai attire.

In the afternoon, students let their creativity shine by crafting eco-friendly krathongs and participating in a friendly competition to determine the best design in each year group. The activity underscored the importance of sustainability while celebrating Thai customs.
