Congratulations to International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate and high-performance student-athlete, Yan Zheng (Zheng), who has received an academic scholarship and the option for first-year credit at Drew University in New Jersey. Zheng plans to study Electrical Engineering and be part of Drew’s NCAA Division 3 swim team. Drew is one of many universities that recognises the rigour of the IB Diploma and offers credit for IB scores. Depending on his final results, Zheng will be exempt from many first-year courses and can go straight to second-year courses.
Zheng was recruited to BISP’s high-performance swim team from Malaysia in 2018. An academic all-rounder with a bright personality and aptitude for STEM subjects, Zheng’s strong leadership qualities were evident early on in the classroom. He approached his swimming with the same focus and maturity, leading him to numerous medals in the pool at national competitions in distance freestyle and his main event, the 200m butterfly. He is a keen chess player and as Red Hawks Colour Team Captain, helped organise the school’s Secondary chess tournament earlier this year, along with other colour team events.
BISP would like to thank Zheng for his contribution to our school and wish him all the best for every step of his journey.
