The 2023 BISP Golden Mile and Golden (S)MILE events took place on Wednesday 13th December. The “golden mile” is a one-mile (1.6 km) running race, and BISP has become a prestigious challenge and a key annual event for our students who aim to beat their personal best time over the mile-long course. This year the course was altered due to the Jeff LaMantia Pitch and therefore all winning times are records for the new course. The distance is still one mile.
The Golden (S)MILE event took place following the run, and was an opportunity for the whole BISP community (students, staff, and families) to participate in a wellbeing fun run to support our BISP charity partners. The (S)MILE acronym stands for:
- S – SERVICE – through action
- M – MEANING – running for a reason.
- I – INCLUSIVITY – engagement at an appropriate level.
- L – LEADERSHIP – student-led through organisation and participation
- E – EXERCISE – a showcase for physical literacy and health
Following the Golden Mile, all students participated in the Golden (S)MILE fun run featuring a Christmas-themed interactive course known as the ‘Bauble Run’’. The aim was to have some festive fun whilst raising awareness and funds for five BISP-supported charity organisations:
- Scholars of Sustenance (SOS)
- Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation
- Phuket Sunshine Village
- SOS Children’s Villages Thailand
- Asia Center Foundation
We were fortunate to have over 80 excited children from the organisations above joining us to share the fun as we walk, skip and run, collecting baubles for our House Christmas Tree. We were thrilled to see so many students taking part again this year and the House spirit was truly alive all morning.
The results for overall House points and individual place winners in each age group for the Golden Mile can be viewed below:
