BISP proudly hosted the FOBISIA Mathematics Code Breaking Competition for the third consecutive year. Initially planned as a one-time event, the competition returned due to popular demand and has since become a signature challenge. This year’s virtual event was another resounding success, drawing 125 schools from across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, with over 22,500 participants and a remarkable 42,000 leaderboard entries.

Students from Year 4 to Year 13 tackled a range of code challenges, working to solve puzzles across six levels, including a Murder Mystery, a Spy Challenge, and the notoriously challenging Test of Genius. Participants who cracked all the codes at a level earned a place on the leaderboard.

Special congratulations go to Dulwich College Singapore, North London Collegiate Jeju, and Bangkok Patana School for securing the top three positions, contributing over 4,500 leaderboard entries between them.

BISP’s Code-Breaking Stars

BISP students shone across both Primary and Secondary divisions. Our younger participants, particularly in Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6, were among the first globally to test the codes, offering invaluable feedback to improve the event. Standout performers include Zitong (Year 4), Eva (Year 5), and Liza (Year 6).

In Secondary, students from Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 tackled the challenges with enthusiasm. Top performers include:

• Year 7: Daji, Leo, and Na-Phatsara
• Year 8: Milana, Diana, Eva, Anhelina, and Kim Eng
• Year 9: Clayton, Jeffery, Kiran, Gavin, Valeriya, Kate, Thanyakan, and Marianna

A special mention goes to Clayton and Kiran for completing all six levels, including the exceptionally difficult Test of Genius—an incredible achievement!

In total, BISP students contributed over 785 leaderboard entries, placing the school in the Top 20 globally. With such impressive problem-solving skills and determination, perhaps some of these students will pursue careers in encryption and decryption in the future.
