On 14th June 2024, the British International School, Phuket (BISP) hosted a memorable Year 6 Celebration Assembly, marking an important milestone for its students as they transition from primary to secondary school. The event was filled with heartfelt speeches, musical performances, and a sense of pride and achievement shared by students, parents, and teachers alike.

The celebration began with a Showcase of Learning Slideshow, accompanied by a live piano performance by the talented Tete. This set the stage for a heartfelt and inspiring afternoon.

The first student speaker, Marcus, shared his cherished memories of Year 6, setting a reflective tone for the event. This was followed by a group poem recital, “Secondary doesn’t frighten me!” beautifully adapted by the students to express their courage in facing the new challenges of secondary school. One of the highlights was a musical performance by the Year 6 students, who sang “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa. Their performance, accompanied by the school’s rock band, showcased their talents and the strong bonds they’ve formed over the years.

Luna and Mali also took the stage to share their experiences and reflections, each speech resonating with the audience and highlighting the unique journey of every student. A slideshow of photos provided a nostalgic look back at the students’ primary years, celebrating their growth and achievements.

Certificates of graduation were presented by Head of School, Mr. Meredith, and Primary Principal, Mrs. Walter, with each student being recognised as they crossed the stage. The assembly continued with a class performance of “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, symbolising the students’ readiness to take on new challenges with enthusiasm.

Primary Principal, Mrs. Susan Walter, delivered an inspiring speech, reminding students of their potential and encouraging them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Year 6 Teacher and Team Leader, Melissa Hewison, also addressed the assembly, adding her words of wisdom and support. There was also a surprise video put together by the teachers and staff who have worked with the Year 6 students, which brought laughter and cheer to the event.

The celebration concluded with a lively dance-out procession to the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, encapsulating the joy and excitement of the day. The assembly was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and spirit of the Year 6 students, setting a hopeful tone for their future in Secondary School.

During the last week of Primary School, the students opened letters they had written to themselves at the start of the year. These letters, stored safely for the year, revealed their personal hopes, goals, and reflections, offering a profound sense of how much they have grown and achieved.

As these students begin their next chapter, they carry with them the lessons, friendships, and experiences from their primary years at BISP. The entire school community joins in wishing them continued success and happiness in their journey ahead.
