At BISP, the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme encourages students to use their passions to make a meaningful impact. For Layla, a BISP Year 13 student, art has always been a form of self-expression, but through her CAS project, she discovered its power to create change. By transforming student artwork into postcards and using the proceeds to support local education, Layla has shown how creativity can become a force for good.

Turning Art into Opportunity

By Layla, BISP Year 13 Student

Art has always been a passion of mine. However, through this project, I also saw how it can create real change. For my CAS project, I collected artwork that my friends and I had created during IGCSE and transformed them into postcards, which I sold to friends and family. The money raised went towards purchasing stationery and classroom essentials, which I then donated to the Asia Centre Foundation—a non-governmental organisation that provides education for underprivileged children in Phuket.

Why It Matters

Education is something we often take for granted. However, for many children around us, even basic school supplies are difficult to obtain. This lack of access prevents some students from receiving an education, ultimately making it harder to break the cycle of poverty. Since this is an issue I witness firsthand, I wanted my project to focus on ways to address it and make a meaningful contribution, no matter how small.

Lessons Learned

This experience taught me a range of skills, from collaborating with others to understanding the importance of planning. Most importantly, I learned that small efforts can lead to a big impact. While the project required significant time and energy, I believe the benefits—both for myself and the community—far outweighed the challenges.

Looking Ahead

In the future, I hope to continue supporting the local community because I believe that giving back is something we should all focus on more often. Whether through sport, art, music, or any other passion, there is always something we can offer. Together, we can create real change.
