Book Week was a fantastic celebration across both Primary and Secondary, featuring a range of engaging activities that encouraged students to explore the joy of reading. From creative competitions to guest readers and a visit from a renowned author, the week highlighted the importance of books and storytelling throughout the school.

BISP Secondary School embraced the spirit of literature during Book Week, held from 3 to 7 March, with a series of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and deepen students’ love for reading.

From decorative book posters showcasing this year’s top reads to Mr Keenan’s Library Scavenger Hunt, the school was filled with literary energy. Students tested their knowledge in Mr Ray’s Reading Gimkit Quiz, matched AI-generated images to famous texts in Mr Lockwood’s Reading Image Challenge, and pieced together iconic quotes in Mr Paice and Mr Dilts’ Poster Flip Challenge. Budding writers also took part in Mr Jarrett and Ms Barton’s Flash Fiction Competition, crafting captivating 50-word stories with unexpected twists.

World Book Day on 6 March was a highlight, with students and teachers dressing as their favourite literary characters, bringing well-loved stories to life. Throughout the week, participants were rewarded with prizes, candy, and Bake vouchers, adding an extra element of excitement to the celebrations.

The excitement continued on Tuesday, 11 March, with a visit from renowned British-Australian author and illustrator Martin Chatterton. Known for his dynamic storytelling and humour, Chatterton led workshops for Years 7, 8, and 9, exploring themes such as creativity, writing, bullying, device addiction, and self-confidence. His visit was an inspiring experience for students, reinforcing BISP’s commitment to fostering a rich literary culture.

Book Week provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with literature in new and creative ways. Thank you to all staff and students who made this event such a success.
