Over the coming weeks, students throughout the school will be continuing to fine-tune their speeches and delivery ahead of their upcoming voice examinations.
Students in Years 9, 10 and 12 will now sit their LAMDA (London Academy of Music and the Dramatic Arts) speech examinations in March and our Year 2, 7 and 8 students will also participate in LAMDA-style voice examinations with a professional drama coach and public speaker in Phuket. For their assessment, the Year 2 students will need to recite a poem, talk about a favourite toy and describe how to play a particular game.
Speech examinations are compulsory for Key Stage 3 students at BISP and this is the second year our Year 2 children will be performing a LAMDA-style assessment. IGCSE and IB students following courses in Theatre Arts take more advanced LAMDA examinations.
LAMDA is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their oral communication and memory skills, self confidence and speak about a topic they are passionate about. This year, our students in Years 9, 10 and 12 will be graded online by an official LAMDA examiner in the UK. Students will receive either a Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
In recent years, BISP students have won national speech competitions and also represented Thailand in the British Council Sponsored English Speaking Union event in London.
