This year, the Maths Department at BISP hosted its annual Pi Day celebrations, a fun and educational tradition that brings mathematics to life for our students.

Pi Day is marked during the week of 14 March—written as 3.14 in the American date format, which reflects the first three significant digits of π (pi).

Events for Key Stage 3 students included pi-themed quizzes and puzzles. Each House team also nominated students to take part in the Pi Recitation Challenge, where they recited digits of pi from memory in front of their year group. The lesson concluded with students enjoying a selection of pi-themed snacks.

This year saw some incredible memory feats. In Year 7, Zlata recited 72 digits of pi. In Year 8, June reached 95 digits, Matteo achieved 100, and Cilicia wowed everyone by reciting an impressive 200 digits.

In the House competition, Blue House took the win in Year 7, while Yellow House claimed the top spot in Year 8.

A huge thank you to all the parents who contributed some truly creative pi cakes and biscuits, and to the Maths Department staff for organising such a fun and engaging series of activities. Pi Day continues to be a great way for students to explore mathematics in an interactive and memorable way.
