Towards the end of Term 3, BISP Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to work with Juffy Joob, a famous Phuket painter known for her “Bridal Cat Series.” Juffy Joob’s recent solo exhibition at Tree O’Clock showcased her passion for cats and Peranakan art, and she brought this passion to our classrooms.

During the Artist in Residence programme, students were challenged to create their own detailed and expressive cat paintings in Juffy Joob’s style. Using different brush sizes and techniques, they worked to capture the intricate details and unique character of her art. They also experimented with metallic colours and learned how to paint fur and jewellery, which are key features of Juffy Joob’s work.

The students enjoyed the experience, finding it fun and rewarding to work alongside their friends. The three days were filled with creativity, learning, and a lot of enthusiasm. On our return to school, we will display our “Bridal Cats” alongside some of Juffy Joob’s pieces. This exhibition is a great opportunity to appreciate the talent and effort of our students and to see the influence of a professional artist on their work.

It’s a wonderful chance to see the impressive results of their creative efforts. Thank you, Juffy Joob, for sharing your skills and talent with us.
