This year the Maths department at BISP held its annual Pi Day celebrations. Pi Day is held on the week of March 14, which is 3.14 when written in the American, day, month format, as  3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π.  

Events for our Key Stage 3 students included pi quizzes and puzzles.  Each House team also had to nominate students who then had to recite pi from memory in front of the year group.  At the end of the lesson, students then tucked into some pi-related snacks.  

This year we saw some sensational pi memory performances.  In Year 7, Alice and Matteo remembered an impressive 96 and 126 digits respectively.  In Year 8, Morgan recited an incredible 304 digits – breaking her record last year of 234 numbers. 

In Year 7 the House competition was won by Red Tigers. Meanwhile, in Year 8 Yellow Leopards were the winners – beating Red Tigers by 2 points.

A huge thank you to all the parents who supported their children in providing some amazing pi cakes and biscuits, and thank you to the Maths department staff for organising the many activities that allowed our students to explore pi in fun and engaging ways.
