As part of the student wellbeing programme, BISP recently had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Alan Yip, Master Trainer and Elite Performance Coach, who spoke to Year 11 on effective study skills in the lead up to their IGCSE examinations.
Mr. Yip, a two-time record holder in Memory Power and former coach of the Singapore memory team, shared valuable insights and strategies for the students to improve their study habits and perform to the best of their abilities in their examinations. He also shared subject-specific tactics that will help our students to optimise their success at IGCSE level.
Much emphasis was placed on the importance of intention, understanding and perseverance, as well as the need to set specific, achievable goals. This could include setting targets for the number of pages to read or concepts to learn each day, and breaking larger tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. The importance of creating a consistent study schedule and sticking to it, even when it gets tough, was also discussed. Mr. Yip provided vital practical tips on how to stay focused and avoid distractions while studying. The students were also encouraged to take regular breaks and engage in physical activity to keep their minds sharp.
The students were provided with invaluable information and strategies that can help them succeed in their IGCSE examinations. We encourage all parents to discuss the tips presented with their children, and to provide support and encouragement as they work towards their goals. With the right mindset, discipline, and strategies, we are confident that our Year 11 students will be able to achieve great things over the coming months.
